Psalms 112-118

Psalms 112

1Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!) Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who fears the LORD [with awe-inspired reverence and worships Him with obedience], Who delights greatly in His commandments.

2His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.

3Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.

4Light arises in the darkness for the upright; He is gracious and compassionate and righteous (upright—in right standing with God).

5It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; He conducts his affairs with justice.

6He will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever.

7He will not fear bad news; His heart is steadfast, trusting [confidently relying on and believing] in the LORD.

8His heart is upheld, he will not fear While he looks [with satisfaction] on his adversaries.

9He has given freely to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted in honor.

10The wicked will see it and be angered, He will gnash his teeth and melt away [in despair and death]; The desire of the wicked will perish and come to nothing.

Psalms 113

1Praise the LORD! ( Hallelujah!) Praise, O servants of the LORD, Praise the name of the LORD.

2Blessed be the name of the LORD From this time forth and forever.

3From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the LORD is to be praised [with awe-inspired reverence].

4The LORD is high above all nations, And His glory above the heavens.

5Who is like the LORD our God, Who is enthroned on high,

6Who humbles Himself to regard The heavens and the earth?

7He raises the poor out of the dust And lifts the needy from the ash heap,

8That He may seat them with princes, With the princes of His people.

9He makes the barren woman live in the house As a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 114

1When Israel came out of Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2Judah became His sanctuary, And Israel His dominion.

3The [Red] Sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back.

4The mountains leaped like rams, The [little] hills, like lambs.

5What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?

6O mountains, that you leap like rams, O [little] hills, like lambs?

7Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the God of Jacob (Israel),

8Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.

Psalms 115

1Not to us, O LORD, not to us, But to Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth and faithfulness.

2Why should the nations say, "Where, now, is their God?"

3But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.

4The idols [of the nations] are silver and gold, The work of man's hands.

5They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;

6They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell;

7They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; Nor can they make a sound with their throats.

8Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.

9O Israel, trust and take refuge in the LORD! [Be confident in Him, cling to Him, rely on His word!] He is their help and their shield.

10O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

11You who [reverently] fear the LORD, trust in LORD; He is their help and their shield.

12The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless, He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.

13He will bless those who fear and worship the LORD [with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder], Both the small and the great.

14May the LORD give you [great] increase, You and your children.

15May you be blessed of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

16The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, But the earth He has given to the children of men.

17The dead do not praise the LORD, Nor do any who go down into silence;

18But as for us, we will bless and affectionately and gratefully praise the LORD From this time forth and forever. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 116

1I love the LORD, because He hears [and continues to hear] My voice and my supplications (my pleas, my cries, my specific needs).

2Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.

3The cords and sorrows of death encompassed me, And the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow.

4Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, please save my life!"

5Gracious is the LORD, and [consistently] righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate.

6The LORD protects the simple (childlike); I was brought low [humbled and discouraged], and He saved me.

7Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

8For You have rescued my life from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from stumbling and falling.

9I will walk [in submissive wonder] before the LORD In the land of the living.

10I believed [and clung to my God] when I said, "I am greatly afflicted."

11I said in my alarm, "All men are liars."

12What will I give to the LORD [in return] For all His benefits toward me? [How can I repay Him for His precious blessings?]

13I will lift up the cup of salvation And call on the name of the LORD.

14I will pay my vows to the LORD, Yes, in the presence of all His people.

15Precious [and of great consequence] in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones [so He watches over them].

16O LORD, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid; You have unfastened my chains.

17I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call on the name of the LORD.

18I will pay my vows to the LORD, Yes, in the presence of all His people,

19In the courts of the Lord's house (temple)— In the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 117

1O praise the LORD, all you nations! Praise Him, all you people!

2For His lovingkindness prevails over us [and we triumph and overcome through Him], And the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 118

1O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness endures forever.

2Oh let Israel say, "His lovingkindness endures forever."

3Oh let the house of Aaron say, "His lovingkindness endures forever."

4Oh let those who [reverently] fear the LORD, say, "His lovingkindness endures forever."

5Out of my distress I called on the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me free.

6The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can [mere] man do to me?

7The LORD is on my side, He is among those who help me; Therefore I will look [in triumph] on those who hate me.

8It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man.

9It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes.

10All nations encompassed me; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off.

11They encompassed me, yes, they surrounded me [on every side]; In the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

12They swarmed around me like bees; They flare up and are extinguished like a fire of thorns; In the name of the LORD I will surely cut them off.

13You [my enemy] pushed me violently so that I was falling, But the LORD helped me.

14The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.

15The sound of joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous: The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

16The right hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

17I will not die, but live, And declare the works and recount the illustrious acts of the LORD.

18The LORD has disciplined me severely, But He has not given me over to death.

19Open to me the [temple] gates of righteousness; I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the LORD.

20This is the gate of the LORD; The righteous will enter through it.

21I will give thanks to You, for You have heard and answered me; And You have become my salvation [my Rescuer, my Savior].

22The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.

23This is from the LORD and is His doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.

24This [day in which God has saved me] is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25O LORD, save now, we beseech You; O LORD, we beseech You, send now prosperity and give us success!

26Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed you from the house of the LORD [you who come into His sanctuary under His guardianship].

27The LORD is God, and He has given us light [illuminating us with His grace and freedom and joy]. Bind the festival sacrifices with cords to the horns of the altar.

28You are my God, and I give thanks to You; [You are] my God, I extol You.

29O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness endures forever.
