Psalms 120-133
Psalms 120
1I cried to the LORD in my trouble, And He answered me.
2Rescue my soul, LORD, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue.
3What will He give to you, and what more will He do to you, You deceitful tongue?
4Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree!
5Woe to me, for I reside in Meshech, For I have settled among the tents of Kedar!
6Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace.
7I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war.
Psalms 121
1I will raise my eyes to the mountains; From where will my help come?
2My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
3He will not allow your foot to slip; He who watches over you will not slumber.
4Behold, He who watches over Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5The LORD is your protector; The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6The sun will not beat down on you by day, Nor the moon by night.
7The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
8The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time and forever.
Psalms 122
1I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the house of the LORD.”
2Our feet are standing Within your gates, Jerusalem,
3Jerusalem, that has been built As a city that is firmly joined together;
4To which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD— An ordinance for Israel— To give thanks to the name of the LORD.
5For thrones were set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David.
6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.
7May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces.”
8For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, “May peace be within you.”
9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.
Psalms 123
1To You I have raised my eyes, You who are enthroned in the heavens!
2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a female servant to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He is gracious to us.
3Be gracious to us, LORD, be gracious to us, For we have had much more than enough of contempt.
4Our soul has had much more than enough Of the scoffing of those who are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.
Psalms 124
1“Had it not been the LORD who was on our side,” Let Israel say,
2“Had it not been the LORD who was on our side When people rose up against us,
3Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was kindled against us;
4Then the waters would have flooded over us, The stream would have swept over our souls;
5Then the raging waters would have swept over our souls.”
6Blessed be the LORD, Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth.
7Our souls have escaped like a bird from the trapper’s snare; The snare is broken and we have escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalms 125
1Those who trust in the LORD Are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but remains forever.
2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the LORD surrounds His people From this time and forever.
3For the scepter of wickedness will not rest upon the land of the righteous, So that the righteous will not extend their hands to do wrong.
4Do good, LORD, to those who are good And to those who are upright in their hearts.
5But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The LORD will lead them away with those who practice injustice. Peace be upon Israel.
Psalms 126
1When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, We were like those who dream.
2Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
3The LORD has done great things for us; We are joyful.
4Restore our fortunes, LORD, As the streams in the South.
5Those who sow in tears shall harvest with joyful shouting.
6One who goes here and there weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
Psalms 127
1Unless the LORD builds a house, They who build it labor in vain; Unless the LORD guards a city, The watchman stays awake in vain.
2It is futile for you to rise up early, To stay up late, To eat the bread of painful labor; This is how He gives to His beloved sleep.
3Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.
5Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalms 128
1Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways.
2When you eat the fruit of the labor of your hands, You will be happy and it will go well for you.
3Your wife will be like a fruitful vine Within your house, Your children like olive plants Around your table.
4Behold, for so shall a man Who fears the LORD be blessed.
5The LORD bless you from Zion, And may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
6Indeed, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!
Psalms 129
1“Many times they have attacked me from my youth up,” Let Israel say,
2“Many times they have attacked me from my youth up; Yet they have not prevailed against me.
3The plowers plowed upon my back; They lengthened their furrows.”
4The LORD is righteous; He has cut up the ropes of the wicked.
5May all who hate Zion Be put to shame and turned backward;
6May they be like grass upon the housetops, Which withers before it grows up;
7With which the harvester does not fill his hand, Or the binder of sheaves his arms;
8Nor do those who pass by say, “The blessing of the LORD be upon you; We bless you in the name of the LORD.”
Psalms 130
1Out of the depths I have cried to You, LORD.
2Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the sound of my pleadings.
3If You, LORD, were to keep account of guilty deeds, Lord, who could stand?
4But there is forgiveness with You, So that You may be revered.
5I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And I wait for His word.
6My soul waits in hope for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
7Israel, wait for the LORD; For with the LORD there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.
8And He will redeem Israel From all his guilty deeds.
Psalms 131
1LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes arrogant; Nor do I involve myself in great matters, Or in things too difficult for me.
2I have certainly soothed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child resting against his mother, My soul within me is like a weaned child.
3Israel, wait for the LORD From this time on and forever.
Psalms 132
1Remember, LORD, in David’s behalf, All his affliction;
2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
3“I certainly will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed;
4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,
5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6Behold, we heard about it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar.
7Let’s go into His dwelling place; Let’s worship at His footstool.
8Arise, LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
9May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And may Your godly ones sing for joy.
10For the sake of Your servant David, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: “I will set upon your throne one from the fruit of your body.
12If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also will sit upon your throne forever.”
13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it as His dwelling place.
14“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15I will abundantly bless her food; I will satisfy her needy with bread.
16I will also clothe her priests with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
17I will make the horn of David spring forth there; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed.
18I will clothe his enemies with shame, But upon himself his crown will gleam.”
Psalms 133
1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to live together in unity!
2It is like the precious oil on the head, Running down upon the beard, As on Aaron’s beard, The oil which ran down upon the edge of his robes.
3It is like the dew of Hermon Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; For the LORD commanded the blessing there—life forever.
