Luke 18:31-34; John 12:20-33; Isaiah 53:8-12

Luke 18:31-34

31And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.

32For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon.

33And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.”

34But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

John 12:20-33

20Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks.

21So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”

22Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

23And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

24Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

26If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.

28Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

29The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

30Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine.

31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.

32And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

33He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.

Isaiah 53:8-12

8By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?

9And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

10Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

12Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
