Luke 18:31-34; John 12:20-33; Isaiah 53:8-12
Luke 18:31-34
31Now He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that have been written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.
32For He will behanded over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon,
33and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.”
34The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.
John 12:20-33
20Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to worship at the feast;
21these people then came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were making a request of him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
22Philip *came and *told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip *came and *told Jesus.
23But Jesus *answered them by saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25The one who loves hislife loses it, and the one who hates hislife in this world will keep itto eternal life.
26If anyoneserves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyoneserves Me, the Father will honor him.
27“Now My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
28Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
29So the crowd who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him!”
30Jesus responded and said, “This voice has not come for My sake, but for yours.
31Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself.”
33Now He was saying this to indicate what kind of death He was going to die.
Isaiah 53:8-12
8By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off from the land of the living For the wrongdoing of my people, to whom the blow was due?
9And His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
10But the LORD desired To crush Him, causing Him grief; If He renders Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
11As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, For He will bear their wrongdoings.
12Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers.
