Psalms 115,116,117
Psalms 115
1Not to us, O LORD, not to us, But to Your name give glory Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth and faithfulness.
2Why should the nations say, "Where, now, is their God?"
3But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
4The idols [of the nations] are silver and gold, The work of man's hands.
5They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;
6They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell;
7They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; Nor can they make a sound with their throats.
8Those who make them will become like them, Everyone who trusts in them.
9O Israel, trust and take refuge in the LORD! [Be confident in Him, cling to Him, rely on His word!] He is their help and their shield.
10O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.
11You who [reverently] fear the LORD, trust in LORD; He is their help and their shield.
12The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless, He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.
13He will bless those who fear and worship the LORD [with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder], Both the small and the great.
14May the LORD give you [great] increase, You and your children.
15May you be blessed of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
16The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, But the earth He has given to the children of men.
17The dead do not praise the LORD, Nor do any who go down into silence;
18But as for us, we will bless and affectionately and gratefully praise the LORD From this time forth and forever. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)
Psalms 116
1I love the LORD, because He hears [and continues to hear] My voice and my supplications (my pleas, my cries, my specific needs).
2Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.
3The cords and sorrows of death encompassed me, And the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow.
4Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, please save my life!"
5Gracious is the LORD, and [consistently] righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate.
6The LORD protects the simple (childlike); I was brought low [humbled and discouraged], and He saved me.
7Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8For You have rescued my life from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from stumbling and falling.
9I will walk [in submissive wonder] before the LORD In the land of the living.
10I believed [and clung to my God] when I said, "I am greatly afflicted."
11I said in my alarm, "All men are liars."
12What will I give to the LORD [in return] For all His benefits toward me? [How can I repay Him for His precious blessings?]
13I will lift up the cup of salvation And call on the name of the LORD.
14I will pay my vows to the LORD, Yes, in the presence of all His people.
15Precious [and of great consequence] in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones [so He watches over them].
16O LORD, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid; You have unfastened my chains.
17I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call on the name of the LORD.
18I will pay my vows to the LORD, Yes, in the presence of all His people,
19In the courts of the Lord's house (temple)— In the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)
Psalms 117
1O praise the LORD, all you nations! Praise Him, all you people!
2For His lovingkindness prevails over us [and we triumph and overcome through Him], And the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)
