¹After these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

²Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.

³So His brothers said to Him, “Move on from here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.

⁴For no one does anything in secret when he himself is striving to be known publicly. If You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.”

⁵For not even His brothers believed in Him.

⁶So Jesus *said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always ready.

⁷The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its deeds are evil.

⁸Go up to the feast yourselves; I am not going up to this feast, because My time has not yet fully arrived.”

⁹Now having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.

¹⁰But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as though in secret.

¹¹So the Jews were looking for Him at the feast and saying, “Where is He?”

¹²And there was a great deal of talk about Him in secret among the crowds: some were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He is misleading the people.”

¹³However, no one was speaking openly about Him, for fear of the Jews.

¹⁴But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple area, and began to teach.

¹⁵The Jews then were astonished, saying, “How has this man become learned, not having been educated?”

¹⁶So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not My own, but His who sent Me.

¹⁷If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is of God, or I am speaking from Myself.

¹⁸The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

¹⁹“Did Moses not give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why are you seeking to kill Me?”

²⁰The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill You?”

²¹Jesus answered them, “I did onedeed, and you all are astonished.

²²For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and even on a Sabbath you circumcise a man.

²³If a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry at Me because I made an entire man well on a Sabbath?

²⁴Do not judge by the outward appearance, but judgewith righteous judgment.”

²⁵So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this man not the one whom they are seeking to kill?

²⁶And yet look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. The rulers do not really know that this is the Christ, do they?

²⁷However, we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.”

²⁸Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know Me and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.

²⁹I do know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”

³⁰So they were seeking to arrest Him; and yet no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.

³¹But many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “When the Christ comes, He will not perform more signs than those which this man has done, will He?”

³²The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest Him.

³³Therefore Jesus said, “For a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then I am going to Him who sent Me.

³⁴You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

³⁵The Jews then said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He does not intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, does He?

³⁶What is this statement that He said, ‘You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”

³⁷Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty,let him come to Me and drink.

³⁸The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ”

³⁹But this He said in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

⁴⁰Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying, “This truly is the Prophet.”

⁴¹Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” But others were saying, “Surely the Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He?

⁴²Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

⁴³So a dissension occurred in the crowd because of Him.

⁴⁴And some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

⁴⁵The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”

⁴⁶The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken in this way!”

⁴⁷The Pharisees then replied to them, “You have not been led astray too, have you?

⁴⁸Not one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?

⁴⁹But this crowd that does not know the Law is accursed!”

⁵⁰Nicodemus (the one who came to Him before, being one of them) *said to them,

⁵¹“Our Law does not judge the person unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”

⁵²They answered and said to him, “You are not from Galilee as well, are you? Examine the Scriptures, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”

⁵³[[And everyone went to his home.

¹Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt.

²But the whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

³The sons of Israel said to them, “If only we had died by the LORD’S hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread until we were full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this entire assembly with hunger!”

⁴Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, so that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction.

⁵On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.”

⁶So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening you will know that the LORD has brought you out of the land of Egypt;

⁷and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, for He hears your grumblings against the LORD; and what are we, that you grumble against us?”

⁸And Moses said, “This will happen when the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the LORD hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the LORD.”

⁹Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Come forward before the LORD, for He has heard your grumblings.’ ”

¹⁰And it came about, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

¹¹And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

¹²“I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.’ ”

¹³So it came about at evening that the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.

¹⁴When the layer of dew evaporated, behold, on the surface of the wilderness there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground.

¹⁵When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

¹⁶This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Everyone gather as much as he will eat; you shall take an omer apiece according to the number of people each of you has in his tent.’ ”

¹⁷The sons of Israel did so, and some gathered much and some little.

¹⁸When they measured it by the omer, the one who had gathered much did not have too much, and the one who had gathered little did not have too little; everyone gathered as much as he would eat.

¹⁹Moses said to them, “No one is to leave any of it until morning.”

²⁰But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.

²¹They gathered it morning by morning, everyone as much as he would eat; but when the sun became hot, it would melt.

²²Now on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. When all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses,

²³then he said to them, “This is what the LORD meant: Tomorrow is a Sabbath observance, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over put aside to be kept until morning.”

²⁴So they put it aside until morning, as Moses had ordered, and it did not stink nor was there a maggot in it.

²⁵Then Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.

²⁶Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”

²⁷Yet it came about on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.

²⁸Then the LORD said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions?

²⁹See, the LORD has given you the Sabbath; for that reason He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain, everyone, in his place; no one is to leave his place on the seventh day.”

³⁰So the people rested on the seventh day.

³¹And the house of Israel named the bread manna, and it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey.

³²Then Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘A full omer of it is to be kept safe throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ”

³³And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar and put a full omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD to be kept safe throughout your generations.”

³⁴As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept.

³⁵And the sons of Israel ate the manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

³⁶(Now an omer is a tenth of an ephah.)

¹And I, brothers and sisters, could not speak to you as spiritual people, but only as fleshly, as to infants in Christ.

²I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to consume it. But even now you are not yet able,

³for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like ordinary people?

⁴For when one person says, “I am with Paul,” and another, “I am with Apollos,” are you not ordinary people?

⁵What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one.

⁶I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.

⁷So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

⁸Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

⁹For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.

¹⁰According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it.

¹¹For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

¹²Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,

¹³each one’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each one’s work.

¹⁴If anyone’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.

¹⁵If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet only so as through fire.

¹⁶Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

¹⁷If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

¹⁸Take care that no one deceives himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.

¹⁹For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God. For it is written: “He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE BY THEIR CRAFTINESS”;

²⁰and again, “THE LORD KNOWS THE THOUGHTS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE useless.”

²¹So then, no one is to be boasting in people. For all things belong to you,

²²whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come; all things belong to you,

²³and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.

¹Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels who had seven plagues, which are the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished.

²And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who were victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God.

³And they *sang the song of Moses, the bond-servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God, the Almighty; Righteous and true are Your ways, King of the nations!

⁴Who will not fear You, Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For ALL THE NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU, For Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

⁵After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened,

⁶and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, clothed in linen, clean and bright, and their chests wrapped with golden sashes.

⁷And one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever.

⁸And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.

¹“Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?

²For irritation kills the fool, And jealousy brings death to the simple.

³I have seen the fool taking root, And I cursed his home immediately.

⁴His sons are far from safety, They are also oppressed at the gate, And there is no one to save them.

⁵The hungry devour his harvest And take it to a place of thorns, And the schemer is eager for their wealth.

⁶For disaster does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble sprout from the ground,

⁷For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.

⁸“But as for me, I would seek God, And I would make my plea before God,

⁹Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number.

¹⁰He gives rain on the earth, And sends water on the fields,

¹¹So that He sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety.

¹²He frustrates the schemes of the shrewd, So that their hands cannot attain success.

¹³He captures the wise by their own cleverness, And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.

¹⁴By day they meet with darkness, And grope at noon as in the night.

¹⁵But He saves from the sword of their mouth, And the poor from the hand of the strong.

¹⁶So the helpless has hope, And injustice has shut its mouth.

¹⁷“Behold, happy is the person whom God disciplines, So do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.

¹⁸For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, but His hands also heal.

¹⁹In six troubles He will save you; Even in seven, evil will not touch you.

²⁰In famine He will redeem you from death, And in war, from the power of the sword.

²¹You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.

²²You will laugh at violence and hunger, And you will not be afraid of wild animals.

²³For you will be in league with the stones of the field, And the animals of the field will be at peace with you.

²⁴You will know that your tent is secure, For you will visit your home and have nothing missing.

²⁵You will also know that your descendants will be many, And your offspring as the grass of the earth.

²⁶You will come to the grave at a ripe age, Like the stacking of grain in its season.

²⁷Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself.”

¹Bless the LORD, my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

²Bless the LORD, my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits;

³Who pardons all your guilt, Who heals all your diseases;

⁴Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with favor and compassion;

⁵Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

⁶The LORD performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed.

⁷He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the sons of Israel.

⁸The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in mercy.

⁹He will not always contend with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.

¹⁰He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds.

¹¹For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

¹²As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our wrongdoings from us.

¹³Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.

¹⁴For He Himself knows our form; He is mindful that we are nothing but dust.

¹⁵As for man, his days are like grass; Like a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

¹⁶When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place no longer knows about it.

¹⁷But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting for those who fear Him, And His justice to the children’s children,

¹⁸To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts, so as to do them.

¹⁹The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.

²⁰Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word!

²¹Bless the LORD, all you His angels, You who serve Him, doing His will.

²²Bless the LORD, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the LORD, my soul!

¹My son, pay attention to my wisdom, Incline your ear to my understanding,

²So that you may maintain discretion And your lips may comply with knowledge.

³For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, And her speech is smoother than oil;

⁴But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.

⁵Her feet go down to death, Her steps take hold of Sheol.

⁶She does not ponder the path of life; Her ways are unstable, she does not know it.

⁷Now then, my sons, listen to me And do not turn away from the words of my mouth.

⁸Keep your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house,

⁹Otherwise you will give your vigor to others, And your years to the cruel one;

¹⁰And strangers will be filled with your strength, And your hard-earned possessions will go to the house of a foreigner;

¹¹And you will groan in the end, When your flesh and your body are consumed;

¹²And you say, “How I hated instruction! And my heart disdainfully rejected rebuke!

¹³I did not listen to the voice of my teachers, Nor incline my ear to my instructors!

¹⁴I was almost in total ruin In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”

¹⁵Drink water from your own cistern, And fresh water from your own well.

¹⁶Should your springs overflow into the street, Streams of water in the public squares?

¹⁷Let them be yours alone, And not for strangers with you.

¹⁸Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth.

¹⁹Like a loving doe and a graceful mountain goat, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.

²⁰For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress, And embrace the breasts of a foreigner?

²¹For the ways of everyone are before the eyes of the LORD, And He observes all his paths.

²²His own wrongdoings will trap the wicked, And he will be held by the ropes of his sin.

²³He will die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his foolishness he will go astray.

¹Now when the entire nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,

²“Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe,

³and command them, saying, ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firmly, and carry them over with you and lay them down in the encampment where you will spend the night.’ ”

⁴So Joshua called the twelve men whom he had appointed from the sons of Israel, one man from each tribe;

⁵and Joshua said to them, “Cross again to the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

⁶This shall be a sign among you; when your children ask later, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

⁷then you shall say to them, ‘That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”

⁸So the sons of Israel did exactly as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the LORD spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the encampment and put them down there.

⁹Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan at the place where the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing, and they are there to this day.

¹⁰For the priests who carried the ark were standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything was completed that the LORD had commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua. And the people hurried and crossed;

¹¹and when all the people had finished crossing, then the ark of the LORD and the priests crossed in front of the people.

¹²The sons of Reuben, the sons of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over in battle formation before the sons of Israel, just as Moses had spoken to them;

¹³about forty thousand equipped for war, crossed for battle before the LORD to the desert plains of Jericho.

¹⁴On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, so that they revered him, just as they had revered Moses all the days of his life.

¹⁵Now the LORD said to Joshua,

¹⁶“Command the priests who carry the ark of the testimony that they come up from the Jordan.”

¹⁷So Joshua commanded the priests, saying, “Come up from the Jordan.”

¹⁸It came about when the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up from the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks as before.

¹⁹Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth of the first month and camped at Gilgal, on the eastern edge of Jericho.

²⁰As for those twelve stones which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set them up at Gilgal.

²¹And he said to the sons of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’

²²then you shall inform your children, saying, ‘Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.’

²³For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the LORD your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed;

²⁴so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, so that you may fear the LORD your God forever.”

¹For behold, the Lord GOD of armies is going to remove from Jerusalem and Judah Both supply and support, the entire supply of bread And the entire supply of water;

²The mighty man and the warrior, The judge and the prophet, The diviner and the elder,

³The captain of fifty and the esteemed person, The counselor and the expert artisan, And the skillful enchanter.

⁴And I will make mere boys their leaders, And mischievous children will rule over them,

⁵And the people will be oppressed, Each one by another, and each one by his neighbor; The youth will assault the elder, And the contemptible person will assault the one honored.

⁶When a man lays hold of his brother in his father’s house, saying, “You have a cloak, you shall be our ruler! And these ruins will be under your authority,”

⁷He will protest on that day, saying, “I will not be your healer, For in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; You should not appoint me ruler of the people.”

⁸For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen, Because their speech and their actions are against the LORD, To rebel against His glorious presence.

⁹The expression of their faces testifies against them, And they display their sin like Sodom; They do not even conceal it. Woe to them! For they have done evil to themselves.

¹⁰Say to the righteous that it will go well for them, For they will eat the fruit of their actions.

¹¹Woe to the wicked! It will go badly for him, For what he deserves will be done to him.

¹²My people! Their oppressors treat them violently, And women rule over them. My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths.

¹³The LORD arises to contend, And stands to judge the people.

¹⁴The LORD enters into judgment with the elders and leaders of His people, “It is you who have devoured the vineyard; The goods stolen from the poor are in your houses.

¹⁵What do you mean by crushing My people And oppressing the face of the poor?” Declares the Lord GOD of armies.

¹⁶Moreover, the LORD said, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty And walk with heads held high and seductive eyes, And go along with mincing steps And jingle the anklets on their feet,

¹⁷The Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs, And the LORD will make their foreheads bare.”

¹⁸On that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, crescent ornaments,

¹⁹dangling earrings, bracelets, veils,

²⁰headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets,

²¹finger rings, nose rings,

²²festive robes, outer garments, shawls, purses,

²³papyrus garments, undergarments, headbands, and veils.

²⁴Now it will come about that instead of balsam oil there will be a stench; Instead of a belt, a rope; Instead of well-set hair, a plucked-out scalp; Instead of fine clothes, a robe of sackcloth; And branding instead of beauty.

²⁵Your men will fall by the sword And your mighty ones in battle.

²⁶And her gates will lament and mourn, And she will sit deserted on the ground.

¹The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,

²until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had given orders by the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.

³To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of things regarding the kingdom of God.

⁴Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;

⁵for John baptizedwith water, but you will be baptizedwith the Holy Spiritnot many days from now.”

⁶So, when they had come together, they began asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time that You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

⁷But He said to them, “It is not for you to know periods of time or appointed times which the Father has set by His own authority;

⁸but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”

⁹And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were watching, and a cloud took Him up, out of their sight.

¹⁰And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, then behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them,

¹¹and they said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

¹²Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

¹³When they had entered the city, they went up to the upstairs room where they were staying, that is, Peter, John, James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

¹⁴All these were continually devoting themselves with one mind to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

¹⁵At this time Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters (a group of about 120 people was there together), and said,

¹⁶“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.

¹⁷For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”

¹⁸(Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

¹⁹And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem; as a result that field was called Hakeldama in their own language, that is, Field of Blood.)

²⁰“For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘MAY HIS RESIDENCE BE MADE DESOLATE, AND MAY THERE BE NONE LIVING IN IT’; and, ‘MAY ANOTHER TAKE HIS OFFICE.’

²¹Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—

²²beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

²³So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias.

²⁴And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all people, show which one of these two You have chosen

²⁵to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

²⁶And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.
