Journey Through God's Word

Genesis 2:18-25; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Peter 3:1-12

Genesis 2:18-25

18And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

19Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.

20So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

22Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

23And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”

24Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Ephesians 5:22-33

22Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

24Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

26that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

27that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

28So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

29For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

30For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

31“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

32This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

1 Peter 3:1-12

1Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives,

2when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.

3Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—

4rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

5For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,

6as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

7Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

8Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;

9not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

10For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.

11Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it.

12For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”
