a later form of tharseo (see CHEER, COMFORT), is connected with thero, "to be warm" (warmth of temperament being associated with confidence); hence, "to be confident, bold, courageous;" RV, invariably, "to be of good courage;" 2Co 5:6, 2Co 5:8 (AV, "to be confident"); 2Co 7:16 (AV, "to have confidence"); 2Co 1:10-2 (AV, "to be bold"); Heb 13:6, AV, "boldly;" RV, "with good courage" (lit., "being courageous"). "to speak boldly, or freely," primarily had reference to speech (see B, below), but acquired the meaning of "being bold, or waxing bold," 1Th 2:2; in Act 13:46, RV, "spake out boldly" (the aorist participle here signifies "waxing bold"); Act 9:27, Act 9:29, "preached boldly (see also Act 18:26, Act 19:8); in Act 26:26, "speak freely."
