denotes "to bow the knees, kneel," from gonu (see above) and pipto, "to fall prostrate," the act of one imploring aid, Mat 17:14, Mar 1:40; of one expressing reverence and honor, Mar 10:17; in mockery, Mat 27:29. A phrase consisting of tithemi, "to put," with gonata, the plural of gonu, "the knee" (see above), signifies "to kneel," and is always used of an attitude of prayer, Luk 22:41 (lit., "placing the knees"); Act 7:60, Act 9:40, Act 20:36, Act 21:5.
