"in like manner" (from the adjective homoios, see LIKE, A, No. 1), is rendered "likewise" in the AV of Mat 22:26, Mat 27:41, Luk 10:32, Luk 16:25, Joh 5:19, Jam 2:25, 1Pe 3:1, 1Pe 3:7, Jud 1:8, Rev 8:12 (in all these the RV has "in like manner"); in the following, AV and RV have "likewise;" Mat 26:35, Luk 5:33, Luk 6:31, Luk 10:37, Luk 17:28, Luk 17:31, Luk 22:36, Joh 6:11, Joh 21:13, Rom 1:27, 1Pe 5:5. a strengthened form of hos, "as," denotes "in like manner, just so, likewise;" it is sometimes translated "likewise," e.g., Mat 20:5, Mat 21:30.

"and, even," is translated "likewise" in the AV and RV of Mat 20:10 (last kai in the verse), more lit., "even they;" elsewhere the RV has "also," for the AV, "likewise," Mat 18:35, Mat 24:33, Luk 3:14, Luk 17:10, Luk 19:19, Luk 21:31, Act 3:24, 1Co 14:9, Col 4:16, 1Pe 4:1; in Mat 21:24, the AV has "in like wise" (RV, "likewise").

from para, "beside," and the adjective plesios, "near" (akin to the adverb pelas, "near, hard by"), is used in Heb 2:14, AV, "likewise" (RV, "in like manner"), expressing the true humanity of Christ in partaking of flesh and blood.

Notes: (1) In Mat 17:12, Rom 6:11, AV, the adverb houtos, "thus, so," is translated "likewise," (RV, "so"); in Luk 15:7, Luk 15:10, AV, "likewise," RV, "even so;" in Luk 14:33, AV, followed by oun, "therefore," it is rendered "so likewise" (RV, "so therefore").
