from kata, "down," and hedra, "a seat," denotes "a seat" (Eng., "cathedral"), "a chair," Mat 21:12, Mar 11:15; of teachers, Mat 23:2.

"the first seat," Mat 23:6, Mar 12:39, Luk 11:43, Luk 20:46; see CHIEF, No. 6. Cp. ROOM.

"to sit, be seated," is translated "shall ... be seated" in Luk 22:69, RV; "is seated," Col 3:1, RV (AV, "shall ... sit" and "sitteth"). See SIT.
