an adjective, signifies "having full command of" (peri, "around, about," krateo, "to be strong, to rule"); it is used with ginomai, "to become," in Act 27:16, RV, "to secure (the boat)," AV, "to come by."
Note: In Mat 28:14, AV, amerimnos, "without anxiety," with poieo, "to make," is translated "we will ... secure (you)," RV, "we will ... rid (you) of care." The Eng. "secure" is derived from the Latin se, "free from," and cura, "care." See CARE.
