"wholly," 1Th 5:23, is lit., "whole-complete" (A, No. 1, and telos, "an end"), i.e., "through and through;" the Apostle's desire is that the sanctification of the believer may extend to every part of his being. The word is similar in meaning to No. 4; holokleros draws attention to the person as a "whole," holoteles, to the several parts which constitute him.

Note: In 1Ti 4:15, the sentence freely rendered "give thyself wholly to them" is, lit., "be in these (things)."
