Christmas Plan

Luke 18:31-34; John 12:20-33; Isaiah 53:8-12

Luke 18:31-34

31Then he took the Twelve aside and told them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. Everything that is written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.

32For he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and he will be mocked, insulted, spit on;

33and after they flog him, they will kill him, and he will rise on the third day.”

34They understood none of these things. The meaning of the saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

John 12:20-33

20Now some Greeks were among those who went up to worship at the festival.

21So they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and requested of him, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”

22Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

23Jesus replied to them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

24Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit.

25The one who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

26If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

27“Now my soul is troubled. What should I say — Father, save me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour.

28Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

29The crowd standing there heard it and said it was thunder. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

30Jesus responded, “This voice came, not for me, but for you.

31Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

32As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself.”

33He said this to indicate what kind of death he was about to die.

Isaiah 53:8-12

8He was taken away because of oppression and judgment; and who considered his fate? For he was cut off from the land of the living; he was struck because of my people’s rebellion.

9He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but he was with a rich man at his death, because he had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully.

10Yet the LORD was pleased to crush him severely. When you make him a guilt offering, he will see his seed, he will prolong his days, and by his hand, the LORD’s pleasure will be accomplished.

11After his anguish, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and he will carry their iniquities.

12Therefore I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.
