Psalms 103,104,105
Psalms 103
1A Psalm of David. Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul, And all that is [deep] within me, bless His holy name.
2Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul, And do not forget any of His benefits;
3Who forgives all your sins, Who heals all your diseases;
4Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you [lavishly] with lovingkindness and tender mercy;
5Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the [soaring] eagle.
6The LORD executes righteousness And justice for all the oppressed.
7He made known His ways [of righteousness and justice] to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.
8The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in compassion and lovingkindness.
9He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10He has not dealt with us according to our sins [as we deserve], Nor rewarded us [with punishment] according to our wickedness.
11For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear and worship Him [with awe-filled respect and deepest reverence].
12As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13Just as a father loves his children, So the LORD loves those who fear and worship Him [with awe-filled respect and deepest reverence].
14For He knows our [mortal] frame; He remembers that we are [merely] dust.
15As for man, his days are like grass; Like a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16For the wind passes over it and it is no more, And its place knows it no longer.
17But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who [reverently] fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children,
18To those who honor and keep His covenant, And remember to do His commandments [imprinting His word on their hearts].
19The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all [the universe].
20Bless the LORD, you His angels, You mighty ones who do His commandments, Obeying the voice of His word!
21Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him and do His will.
22Bless the LORD, all you works of His, in all places of His dominion; Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul!
Psalms 104
1Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
2[You are the One] who covers Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretches out the heavens like a tent curtain,
3Who lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters [above the firmament], Who makes the clouds His chariot, Who walks on the wings of the wind,
4Who makes winds His messengers, Flames of fire His ministers.
5He established the earth on its foundations, So that it will not be moved forever and ever.
6You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains.
7At Your rebuke they fled; At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away.
8The mountains rose, the valleys sank down To the place which You established for them.
9You set a boundary [for the waters] that they may not cross over, So that they will not return to cover the earth.
10You send springs into the valleys; Their waters flow among the mountains.
11They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst there.
12Beside them the birds of the heavens have their nests; They lift up their voices and sing among the branches.
13He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.
14He causes grass to grow for the cattle, And all that the earth produces for cultivation by man, So that he may bring food from the earth—
15And wine which makes the heart of man glad, So that he may make his face glisten with oil, And bread to sustain and strengthen man's heart.
16The trees of the LORD drink their fill, The cedars of Lebanon which He has planted,
17Where the birds make their nests; As for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
18The high mountains are for the wild goats; The rocks are a refuge for the shephanim.
19He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the [exact] place of its setting.
20You [O LORD] make darkness and it becomes night, In which prowls about every wild beast of the forest.
21The young lions roar after their prey And seek their food from God.
22When the sun arises, they withdraw And lie down in their dens.
23Man goes out to his work And remains at his labor until evening.
24O LORD, how many and varied are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your riches and Your creatures.
25There is the sea, great and broad, In which are swarms without number, Creatures both small and great.
26There the ships [of the sea] sail, And Leviathan [the sea monster], which You have formed to play there.
27They all wait for You To give them their food in its appointed season.
28You give it to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are filled and satisfied with good [things].
29You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their breath, they die And return to their dust.
30You send out Your Spirit, they are created; You renew the face of the ground.
31May the glory of the LORD endure forever; May the LORD rejoice and be glad in His works—
32He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34May my meditation be sweet and pleasing to Him; As for me, I will rejoice and be glad in the LORD.
35Let sinners be consumed from the earth, And let the wicked be no more. Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)
Psalms 105
1O give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the people.
2Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonderful acts and devoutly praise them.
3Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those who seek and require the LORD [as their most essential need] rejoice.
4Seek and deeply long for the LORD and His strength [His power, His might]; Seek and deeply long for His face and His presence continually.
5Remember [with awe and gratitude] the wonderful things which He has done, His amazing deeds and the judgments uttered by His mouth [on His enemies, as in Egypt],
6O you offspring of Abraham, His servant, O you sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
7He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.
8He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded and established to a thousand generations,
9The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His sworn oath to Isaac,
10Which He confirmed to Jacob as a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the measured portion of your inheritance."
12When there were only a few men in number, Very few [in fact], and strangers in it;
13And they wandered from one nation to another, From one kingdom to another people,
14He allowed no man to oppress them; He rebuked kings for their sakes, saying,
15"Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm."
16And He called for a famine upon the land [of Egypt]; He cut off every source of bread.
17He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
18His feet they hurt with shackles; He was put in chains of iron,
19Until the time that his word [of prophecy regarding his brothers] came true, The word of the LORD tested and refined him.
20The king sent and released him, The ruler of the peoples [of Egypt], and set him free.
21He made Joseph lord of his house And ruler of all his possessions,
22To imprison his princes at his will, That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23Israel also came into Egypt; Thus Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
24There the LORD greatly increased [the number of] His people, And made them more powerful than their enemies.
25He turned the heart [of the Egyptians] to hate His people, To deal craftily with His servants.
26He sent Moses His servant, And Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27They exhibited His wondrous signs among them, Great miracles in the land of Ham (Egypt).
28He sent [thick, oppressive] darkness and made the land dark; And Moses and Aaron did not rebel against His words.
29He turned Egypt's waters into blood And caused their fish to die.
30Their land swarmed with frogs, Even in the chambers of their kings.
31He spoke, and there came swarms of flies And gnats in all their territory.
32He gave them hail for rain, With flaming fire in their land.
33He struck their vines also and their fig trees, And shattered the [ice-laden] trees of their territory.
34He spoke, and the [migratory] locusts came, And the young locusts, even without number,
35And ate up all the vegetation in their land, And devoured the fruit of their ground.
36He also struck down all the firstborn in their land, The first fruits and chief substance of all their strength.
37He brought the sons of Israel out [of Egypt] with silver and gold, And among their tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38Egypt was glad when they departed, For the dread and fear of them had fallen on the Egyptians.
39The LORD spread a cloud as a covering [by day], And a fire to illumine the night.
40The Israelites asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41He opened the rock and water flowed out; It ran in the dry places like a river.
42For He remembered His holy word To Abraham His servant;
43He brought out His people with joy, And His chosen ones with a joyful shout,
44He gave them the lands of the nations [of Canaan], So that they would possess the fruits of those peoples' labor,
45So that they might observe His precepts And keep His laws [obediently accepting and honoring and valuing them]. Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)
