Psalms 106,107,108

Psalms 106

1Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!) Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His mercy and lovingkindness endure forever!

2Who can put into words the mighty deeds of the LORD? Or who can proclaim all His praise [that is due Him]?

3Blessed are those who observe justice [by honoring God's precepts], Who practice righteousness at all times.

4Remember me, O LORD, when You favor Your people. Visit me with Your salvation [when You rescue them],

5That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may glory with Your inheritance.

6We have sinned like our fathers; We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.

7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand nor appreciate Your miracles; They did not remember the abundance of Your mercies nor imprint Your lovingkindnesses on their hearts, But they were rebellious at the sea, at the Red Sea.

8Nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake, That He might make His [supreme] power known.

9He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; And He led them through the depths as through a pasture.

10So He saved them from the hand of the one that hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the [Egyptian] enemy.

11And the waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.

12Then Israel believed in [the validity of] His words; They sang His praise.

13But they quickly forgot His works; They did not [patiently] wait for His counsel and purpose [to be revealed regarding them],

14But lusted intensely in the wilderness And tempted God [with their insistent desires] in the desert.

15So He gave them their request, But sent a wasting disease among them.

16They envied Moses in the camp, And Aaron [the high priest], the holy one of the LORD,

17Therefore the earth opened and swallowed Dathan, And engulfed the company of Abiram.

18And a fire broke out in their company; The flame consumed the wicked.

19They made a calf in Horeb (Sinai) And worshiped a cast image.

20Thus they exchanged [the true God who was] their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.

21They forgot God their Savior, Who had done such great things in Egypt,

22Wonders in the land of Ham, Awesome things at the Red Sea.

23Therefore He said He would destroy them, [And He would have done so] had not Moses, His chosen one, stepped into the gap before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them.

24Then they despised the pleasant land [of Canaan]; They did not believe in His word nor rely on it,

25But they sulked and complained in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the LORD.

26Therefore He lifted up His hand [swearing] to them, That He would cause them to fall in the wilderness,

27And that He would cast out their descendants among the nations And scatter them in the lands [of the earth].

28They joined themselves also to [the idol] Baal of Peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.

29Thus they provoked Him to anger with their practices, And a plague broke out among them.

30Then Phinehas [the priest] stood up and interceded, And so the plague was halted.

31And that was credited to him for righteousness, To all generations forever.

32They provoked Him to anger at the waters of Meribah, So that it went hard with Moses on their account;

33Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, Moses spoke recklessly with his lips.

34They did not destroy the [pagan] peoples [in Canaan], As the LORD commanded them,

35But they mingled with the [idolatrous] nations And learned their ways,

36And served their idols, Which became a [dreadful] snare to them.

37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons

38And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with their blood.

39In this way they became unclean in their practices; They played the prostitute in their own deeds [by giving their worship, which belongs to God alone, to other "gods"].

40Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people And He detested His own inheritance.

41He gave them into the hands of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.

42Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were subdued under the [powerful] hand of their enemies.

43Many times He rescued them; But they were rebellious in their counsel, And sank down in their wickedness.

44Nevertheless He looked [sympathetically] at their distress When He heard their cry;

45And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented [rescinding their sentence] according to the greatness of His lovingkindness [when they cried out to Him],

46He also made them objects of compassion Among those who had carried them away captive.

47Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the nations, That we may give thanks to Your holy name And glory in praising You.

48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD! (Hallelujah!)

Psalms 107

1O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His compassion and lovingkindness endure forever!

2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,

3And gathered them from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.

4They wandered in the wilderness in a [solitary] desert region; And did not find a way to an inhabited city.

5Hungry and thirsty, They fainted.

6Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He rescued them from their distresses.

7He led them by the straight way, To an inhabited city [where they could establish their homes].

8Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

9For He satisfies the parched throat, And fills the hungry appetite with what is good.

10Some dwelt in darkness and in the deep (deathly) darkness, Prisoners [bound] in misery and chains,

11Because they had rebelled against the precepts of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High.

12Therefore He humbled their heart with hard labor; They stumbled and there was no one to help.

13Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them from their distresses.

14He brought them out of darkness and the deep (deathly) darkness And broke their bonds apart.

15Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

16For He has shattered the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron apart.

17Fools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their sins, were afflicted.

18They detested all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death.

19Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He saved them from their distresses.

20He sent His word and healed them, And rescued them from their destruction.

21Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

22And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And speak of His deeds with shouts of joy!

23Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;

24They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep.

25For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.

26They went up toward the heavens [on the crest of the wave], they went down again to the depths [of the watery trough]; Their courage melted away in their misery.

27They staggered and trembled like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end [all their wisdom was useless].

28Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses.

29He hushed the storm to a gentle whisper, So that the waves of the sea were still.

30Then they were glad because of the calm, And He guided them to their desired haven (harbor).

31Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

32Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders.

33He turns rivers into a wilderness, And springs of water into a thirsty ground;

34A productive land into a [barren] salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

35He turns a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water;

36And there He has the hungry dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city,

37And sow fields and plant vineyards, And produce an abundant harvest.

38Also He blesses them so that they multiply greatly, And He does not let [the number of] their cattle decrease.

39When they are diminished and bowed down (humbled) Through oppression, misery, and sorrow,

40He pours contempt on princes And makes them wander in a pathless wasteland.

41Yet He sets the needy securely on high, away from affliction, And makes their families like a flock.

42The upright see it and rejoice; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth.

43Who is wise? Let him observe and heed these things; And [thoughtfully] consider the lovingkindness of the LORD.

Psalms 108

1A Song. A Psalm of David. O God, my heart is steadfast [with confident faith]; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.

2Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn!

3I will praise and give thanks to You, O LORD, among the people; And I will sing praises to You among the nations.

4For Your lovingkindness is great and higher than the heavens; Your truth reaches to the skies.

5Be exalted [in majesty], O God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth.

6That Your beloved [ones] may be rescued, Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

7God has spoken in His holiness: "I will rejoice, I will portion out Shechem [as I divide Canaan among My people], And measure out the Valley of Succoth.

8"Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet of My head [My stronghold, My defense]; Judah is My scepter.

9"Moab is My washbowl; Over Edom I will throw My shoe [to show Edom is Mine]; Over Philistia I will shout [in triumph]."

10Who will bring me into the fortified city [of Petra]? Who will lead me to Edom?

11Have You not rejected us, O God? And will You not go out, O God, with our armies?

12Give us help against the adversary, For deliverance by man is in vain [a worthless hope].

13With God we will do valiantly, For it is He who will trample down our enemies.
